Communications Technicians install, test, and repair the systems that keep people connected, including cable TV, internet, phone lines, and network systems using fiber optics, radio, or satellite signals. They ensure that communication systems run smoothly in homes, offices, and large buildings, helping to provide strong and reliable connections for television, internet, and data services.

Responsibilities

  • Plan cable routes with builders and electricians before construction begins
  • Pull and install cables through walls, ceilings, and conduits
  • Install and secure hardware such as brackets, boxes, and network panels
  • Connect and test cable ends using certification tools to ensure proper signal strength
  • Set up equipment, like switches, modems, and routers, and assign IP addresses
  • Keep accurate records such as wiring diagrams, service logs, and final checklists
  • Follow safety procedures and working as part of a team on every job site
