Red Seal

Lather (Interior Systems Mechanic) plans and builds interior structures for buildings. They collaborate with other trades to install ceilings, drywall partitions, support frameworks, and components such as fireproofing, soundproofing, and vapour barriers.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine layout and installation requirements
  • Prepare wall and ceiling layouts based on project specifications
  • Install support frameworks for ceilings and walls in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings
  • Cut precise openings for heating and ventilation systems, piping, ducts, and electrical outlets
  • Install curtain walls, fireproofing, soundproofing, and other ceiling and wall components
